Reflection time is not simply taking time to think. Thinking is for generating new ideas and plans to reach a decision. It is a rational exercise done in a given situation.
In contrast, reflection happens when you step outside the situation and look at it from another perspective, much like an actor pausing a scene, stepping off the stage, and seeing how the scene reads from the balcony. Reflection asks less what your rational mind thinks and more about the inner thoughts, feelings, or emotions that influence how you think.
Reflection is highly likely to guard a leader against over-hasty or impulsive (re)actions and irresponsible behavior and it brings focus, clarity and perspective.
If you want to be a successful leader– know how to lead yourself.
